As far as alchohol goes, I do not drink much because I hate the taste of most drinks. I think beer is bubbly and bitter, straight spirits tastes like hot acid and wine all just tastes the same for the most part. For that reason I am naturally drawn to cocktails and ciders. The thing is I do not know how to mix drinks at all. For this project, I thought I would measure ingredients and let them steep in raw spirits and dilute the product with cold simple syrup. It worked pretty well but it needs some more work to determine which ones are worth investing time in and doing again.

Here are some of the things I tried

  • Agbalumo flesh
  • Agbalumo flesh and seeds
  • Agbayun (miracle berry)
  • Velvet tamarind and caramel
  • Bitters (tamarind, oboro, ata re)
  • Zobo (hibiscus flowers) and ginger
  • Mixed Berries
  • Peach and caramel

Overall the zobo and velvet tamarind mixes seemed to be the favorites. Now that those are done,  I want to work on distilling my own rum and vodka properly so I can make a mix that is truly my own.
